Rhododendron calendulaceum

This plant was first collected from the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina in 1795.  The (non-fragrant) flowers of the Flame Azalea are larger than most native azaleas and are in bright shades of orange to red and sometimes yellow.  It is a late season bloomer (late May to June) and can exceed 10 feet in height.  Zone:  5b-8b
